Niall Buchanan is an Australian-born photographic artist based in Berlin. His work explores the male body, desire, intimacy and queer experience through photography and moving image.
Working across portraiture, erotic photography and staged imagery, Buchanan is interested in the relationship between bodies, environments and the viewer. Light, composition and atmosphere play a central role in his practice, creating images that move between observation, performance and fantasy.
His work celebrates male beauty and sexuality, exploring the sensual, playful and sometimes contradictory ways in which masculinity and desire are expressed. Through moments of intimacy, performance and eroticism, his photographs invite viewers to engage with the male body as both an aesthetic subject and an object of desire.
Buchanan graduated from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, in 2010 with a Bachelor of Photography, majoring in Fine Art. Previously exhibiting as A. David Holloway, his work has been shown internationally across Australia, Europe and the United States.
Alongside his artistic practice, he has operated an independent gallery in Bremen and served as chair of Berlin's prideART association, contributing to the development and presentation of work by other artists.
